America's best-selling Porsche is going electric. The all-new Macan EV will redefine sporty German luxury midsize SUVs.

The Macan luxury SUV is the best-selling Porsche car in the US, with 23,688 units sold in 2022. In comparison, the Porsche 911 sold less than half at 10,204 units. These numbers should show you how important an all-new Macan SUV is for the brand. So, Porsche is taking its own sweet time developing and launching the all-new 2025 Macan Electric.

Porsche, in a very interesting way, has now given us more insight into how the Macan EV looks and a bit more information on its electric powertrain. They have collaborated with Austrian Frauscher Shipyard to develop a limited-edition 25-unit electric sports boat, and guess what? This electric yacht shares its powertrain with the Porsche Macan EV. This is proof of how versatile the Macan EV's exciting powertrain is.

We also deduce the 2025 Macan Electric's interior and how it will incorporate bits from the coolest Porsche interior setup today from the 2024 Cayenne. Details are scarce on the all-new Macan EV launch date, but we expect it to break cover along when the Frauscher X Porsche electric boat, delivery of which is set to begin in 2024.

Porsche has already confirmed that the all-new EV will be the most powerful Macan ever. It promised a powertrain setup that churns up to 603 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque. We expect these figures on the dual-motor AWD variant. There will most likely be a base RWD single-motor Macan Electric trim level. This luxury electric SUV will be underpinned by Porsche's new Premium Platform Electric, which has been co-developed with Audi. This is the same platform that will be used in the upcoming Tesla-fighting 2024 Audi A6 e-Tron luxury sedan. The 2025 Macan EV will rewrite the sporty luxury SUV segment.

To reference the electric Macan's insane performance, let's look at the most powerful Macan available today. The 2023 Macan GTS is powered by a 2.9-Liter twin-turbo V6 that churns out a wholesome 435 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. It does 0-60 mph in as low as 4.1 seconds (with the Sport Chrono Package) and has a top speed of 169 mph. The Macan EV is clearly going to go above and beyond the GTS in terms of acceleration. We expect the electric Macan AWD to do 0-60 mph in under 2.5 seconds; the base RWD model can easily crack the 60 mph mark around the 3-second mark.

The electric revolution has unlocked an incredible new level of driving dynamics for tall-riding SUVs.Gone are the days when you felt like sitting in a boat when taking corners in an SUV. The modular construction of newer electric car platforms and low-slung positioning of battery packs helps elevate the driving dynamics to sporty levels, irrespective of the body design. The Macan EV gets a floor-mounted battery pack that helps keep the center of gravity as low as possible. The result is a curvy luxury midsize SUV that can move around like a sports car on the tarmac and loose soil, as seen above.

Porsche has also promised rear-axle steering, electronic differentials, and torque vectoring technology to keep the Macan EV glued and in control at all times. Porsche might also get an adaptive air suspension to help the electric Macan change ride height per the various ride modes. This magic will be taken care of by Porsche Active Suspension Management. The standard Porsche Macan already packs active air suspension, as do the Porsche Panamera and the Cayenne.

But because of the instantaneous and much more aggressive nature of EVs, we expect Porsche to extensively retune the air suspension system that the Macan EV is expected to get. If it turns out to be as flexible as we expect, the Macan EV, in its sportiest ground-hugging mode, to shame well-versed sports cars on the racetrack. In its "go-anywhere" mode, we can expect the Macan EV to ride along with off-roaders on challenging terrains easily.

Frauscher x Porsche electric boat's electric powertrain is taken right off the Macan EV, including the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). While it has been tuned to be more efficient on water, details of the same clear the air around the Macan EV's battery and charging specs that we had been speculating for quite some time now. The electric boat confirms that the 2025 Porsche Macan Electric will pack a Li-Ion high-voltage battery pack with a total capacity of around 100 kWh. A permanently excited synchronous electric motor coupled to the latest power electronic package will ensure that the Macan EV is the most advanced offering from Porsche yet.

The PPE platform supports 800V charging architecture. Couple this with the new battery technology; the Macan EV can fast charge much quicker than the Porsche Taycan's 270 kW setup. The Macan Electric is expected to fast charge from 5-80% using a DC charger in less than 30 minutes. Porsche has also created a clever trick charging setup when using slower AC chargers. This is similar to what we see in some quick-charging smartphones today. In the Macan EV, this tick charging feature will split the 12-battery modules into a pair of 400V packs and charge them in parallel. This will reduce the overall slow charging time.

The all-new Macan Electric is expected to flaunt a cool new redesigned interior inspired by the 2024 Cayenne interior. Porsche wooed us with the gorgeous balance of digital and analog elements in the 2024 Cayenne cabin. In it, the interior is a practical evolution of the Taycan's cabin. We saw the return of analog switches. These include the engine start button, the gear selector, and the air-con control panel. The dashboard has also been redesigned with up to three unique and individual screens.

The instrument cluster is a 12.6-inch curved display, the same as the Taycan. The infotainment display is a 12.3-inch unit that also doubles as the Porsche Communication Management unit. The third optional display is a 10.9-inch passenger display that serves as an entertainment screen for the front passenger. It also comes with a filter that blocks the screen for the driver. Expect to see all these cool Cayenne interior features in the Macan EV cabin.

Porsche is tight-lipped on the Porsche Macan EV's launch date and pricing. But looking at the 2023 Macan pricing and how the EV will be much more powerful and technologically advanced than the current bunch, we expect the 2025 Porsche Macan Electric base single-motor RWD trim to start around $80,000. The top-spec 600+ hp Macan AWD EV (most likely the GTS trim) is expected to creep over the $100,000 mark. Expect the 2025 Macan EV to be on sale by the end of 2024 or early 2025. The launch might even coincide with the delivery of the first of 25 limited-run Frauscher x Porsche all-electric yachts.
